PROGRESSION of project

I have been very deflated in this project and my progression has be awful. This has to be by the worst project I have done to date. I do feel its due to me working all summer and getting run down, the getting the flu at the begining of the semester. Im bitterly disapointed with this and there is nothing I can do but to get myslef together , finshe the project and put it behind me.

I ve started to think about my MP and feel that I have somthing to look forward to. I just want to get this done and out it behind me!!!!!

WARNER TEXTILE ARCHIVE

We had the Warner Textile Archive on Tuesday. It was really beautful to see the interors that some of them were over 50 years old. The prints were so vibrant and they really were stunning. We were shown through all periods from the 18th and 20th centry.I was surprised to find out it was based in Braintree! So some of us were thinking of taking a trip in there to take advantage of it as its on our door step!

COLOUR STORY

This is my colour story for INDIGO 2009
I based it around the leather I had at home to see what colours will suit them the best.

My work,initial ideas

These are a few pages which has started me off in my initial stages..i played on the stand using paper as that's what i like to use.

Sketch book pages of my work. I prefer to work on the stand from the outset,as I generate my ideas allot quicker then and more effectively. From all the inspiration I had collected, I looked into sheer tailoring with leather detailing. I payed close attention to detail in line forms and seam construction. I particular liked the cording design I had created using leather string. This worked well but may have to adjust colours and refine slightly! I'm happy with ,my ideas so far, but I do need to make an decision on my colour story and fabrics!! I tend to get carried away with forms and structure and designing the idea but not considering what it will be made out of!!! more research to do i think....

DEVELOPING...not gone far

I haven't managed to create allot of work this week, again try to find my momentum!!! WHERE HAS IT GONE??????????? i just cant seem to snap out of a bubble that is surrounding me which has almost paralysed me into doing no work.
I have got told I need to look at other avenues to how to use my leather. I haven't yet and just being using it already like I have it. looking into distressing and maybe laser cutting would be a good idea.
I'm quiet behind now and not getting allot done has managed to get my development slow and giving me less time now, let hope for a better week next week.....reading week so it may give me time to clear my head.

Balenciaga S/S10

Strucutre. This is where my strengths lay, and I looked a various desingers show casing this. Along side this, I looked at Balenciaga,(below) This collection showcased immense detail on on mixing different fabrics and panneling them aside. I particularly liked the mix of leather, satin and shiny silk fabrics, and the contrast it created of matt and shiny, which is somthing which I will take forward into my design ideas.

Looking at sheer trends for S/S11 from other designers helped me see how it could be used. embelishment, and talioring with this fabirc is something which intrests me and which I will develop and in corparate within my designs.

STILL ILL!!!!

I'm still ill but back at uni and a week behind!!

To be honest finding it very hard to adapt to this project. I feel very tired and lost and just don't have the heart to carry anything forward. I think this may be due to me working all summer! As much as I loved my experience...I had to work 7days keeping my job going to. It was tough and at times need to learn that going full steam ahead wont necessarily get you the furthest in the long run! I'm paying the price now.

INDIGO, PARIS S/S10-FIRST PROJECT OF THE YEAR

I'm going to be producing a collection for INDIGO, Paris S/S 10. I'm very excited about this, as I did this last year and was happy with the collection I had produced but have to say I'm not feeling the best as i went home on the first day of uni.... i was exhausted and felt the walls closing in and had to got home. I think I have the flu alongside just being very tired and going to work from home for a week and get regenerated!

I got given alot of leather this summer by my dear friend Mark- who is the head fitter at harrods who I work with. So for that reason his year, the direction I have taken is to use leather as the main body of my work. As leather can look very hard and harsh, I have decided to mix it with sheer and flowing fabrics such as silks and sheer organza. This will give a good balance of hard and soft. I wanted to incorporate tailoring in this collection as this is where my strengths lie and have decided to draw designs that will consist of sheer tailoring, with leather trimmings.

SUMMER- BURBERRY EXPERIENCE

Start of the year!!

Ive just finished the summer and have completed an internship with BURBERRY. I was at theHQ at Westminster Horseferry House and it was lovely to be there. The building is amazing and so stylish. Its on Westminster, near the bank and its so beautiful during the summer as the Thames is near.
My experience was a tough yet rewarding. I was in product development for three months. My day would start at 9am most days and then finishing at 6pm!! It was a very long day and my roles were demanding. I got to see the design studios which were very corporate looking but did have flare. I found the process of designing was also methodical and not as create as I thought it would be. I made some amazing friends and contacts whilst there. I also asked for sponsoring fabrics, and managed to get sponsorship for my College!! so next stop me!
My summer was hard but I feel was worth it. Because my roles were so diverse- I learned how a big corporate company works. Christopher Bailey was really nice, and said hello to me quiet a few times! I was gutted that I missed out on London Fashion week, and it was important for BURBERRY as they haven't shown in 10 years, but got to help out in the beginning of the night before I to told to leave!! Great experience and learned all lot, but most important made lots of contact.
Contacts I made were:
Leanne Jae- Denim Product Developer
Camila Hanson- Sample Co-coordinator
