GEHRY FOR TIFFANY

Gehry for Tiffany- crossing over to fashion

I find great inspiration form Gehry and his buildings. His form and shape to manipulate the metal looks stunning creating diverse structures.

This is defiantly going to be my main source of inspiration for a color pallet...GOLD!

RESEARCHING - for intial ideas.

PAGODAS- looking at their disciplines of layering and shape. I haven't looked at allot of historical reference yet more so contemporary in architectural reference to inform my ideas.

ZAHA HADID-her innovative way of constructing and use of negative and positive spacing/ great ideas for structure and line.

FASHION AND ARCHITECTURE

I have a fabulous book in which I got allot of inspiration for my theme in my MP. The skin and bones book. I was gutted I couldn't go to the exhibition but have the book and is just as good(although i keep kidding myself!!)
It got some beautiful imagery but more importantly explaining how the two are usually linked.
The share the same principle and over lapping strategies. They share the same language, like pleating, fold, construction etc.

FINAL MAJOR PROJECT- STARTING RESEARCH

I was at hand and lock for the first 2 weeks of the beginning of this project so 2 weeks behind!! I had a good idea of what i want to achieve but was a bit all over the place at first. As i sat down with he tutors this week...i wasn't presenting any concrete ideas and I did get a little helping hand. Its was the direction of combining both India's maharajahs and country attire lifestyle. Although I liked the idea...I wasn't thinking for myself!

I then this weekend had a long hard look and realised what I love the most

ARCHITECTURE AND FASHION

and hey presto...there is my final collection!!!!

HAND AND LOCK - CATWALK PIECES

Hand and lock for Asprey 2010

HAND AND LOCK GOLD WORK- WORK SHOP DAY

My gold work embroidery school at hand and lock was amazing ! I was the only one to turn up..so it was just me Sar, the teacher. She was lovely and had high expectations and it was great to see her enthusiasm for the trade. i asked if she loves what she does. Sar mentioned that she hasn't had the the opportunity to do allot of hand work anymore as its very expensive and work is often sent to India. This was ironic and it fitted in my dissertation talk about Savile Rows survival. It was really sad to hear this and as a result she just does allot commercial pieces.

I took a picture of what I was making. As you can see its not finished but Sar told me that it would take her up to 35 hours to complete this design!!OMG! so for me ...double it!

she told me I picked it up very quickly and realised I found it easy as i was use to hand work due to bespoke tailoring. I defiantly want to incorporate this in my final Major project..very excited!

WORK EXPERINCE - HAND AND LOCK

I started work experience with hand and lock this week. It was great to see the workshop and the hand work was amazing.! I was quiet nervous,as I started to get all the feeling i had when I was at Burberry..get worried i would get demotivated once back at uni, but it was like that at all! I loved being there for the week and it was great to how they worked still using the traditional methods..just like Savile row tailoring so i could relate with the process.

Originally i was under the impression that I would get the chance to do more hand work..and try out processes, but soon found out that i was doing allot of errands. I was in a pickle! As much as I appreciated the fact they gave me this opportunity...i just didn't want to be a mail lady for the week so i decided to enrol in the school of gold work for a day and learn the techniques on how to do gold work instead of working the full 2weeks next week, but offered Sana the studio manager to do till Weds.
. I felt this was best all round as I just need to weigh up what was more important in the long run. I thought initially that it would be a gamble but I would get expedience on how to do gold work...but when i knew i wasn't going to happen i didn't want to waste my uni time for technically doing nothing there. so following next week Monday i will attend it...cant wait!!!
